PRE-CARE / AFTER-CARE

NEUROMODULATOR INJECTIONS

Please arrive to your appointment with a clean face. There is a cleansing station available for your use.

Please expect makeup to be removed in the areas to be treated.

Due to the expected timeline for results, including the possibility of swelling and bruising, this treatment is not recommended within four weeks of any special event.

Please arrive for your appointment well-hydrated and having eaten, rather than on an empty stomach.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

To help minimize the risk of bruising and promote a more comfortable treatment:

  • Discontinue non-prescription blood-thinning agents 5–7 days prior to your appointment, including:
    • Fish oil and omega supplements
    • Vitamin E
    • Vitamin A
    • Ginkgo biloba
    • Garlic supplements
    • Aspirin
    • Ibuprofen (Advil, Aleve, Motrin) and other NSAIDs
  • Do not stop any prescribed medications such as warfarin, Coumadin, or Plavix unless specifically instructed by your physician.
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 72 hours before your appointment, as it may increase the risk of bruising.
  • Complete your daily workout prior to your appointment, as strenuous activity should be avoided following treatment.

Post-Treatment Instructions

It is normal to experience some redness, swelling, or mild bruising at the injection sites. These effects are temporary and typically resolve within a few days, though mild bruising may persist for up to two weeks.

Treatment Onset and Expectations

  • You may begin to notice results within 2–3 days, though full effect takes up to 14 days.
  • Mild asymmetry or unevenness may occur during the first two weeks, as the medication begins to take effect at different rates in various muscle groups.
  • Wait a full 14 days to assess your final results before considering any refinement or follow-up.
  • If needed, please ensure to book a follow-up appointment 2 weeks post-treatment.

To minimize the risk of infection following injections:

  • Do not rub or touch the treated areas for the remainder of the day.
  • Avoid reapplying makeup over the injection sites for the rest of the day.
  • Cleanse your face as usual in the evening using a gentle cleanser. Avoid active or abrasive products (e.g., AHA, BHA, Retin-A, or physical exfoliants) for 24 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, bending, heavy lifting, or prolonged straining for at least 4 hours following treatment.
  • Refrain from rubbing or massaging the treated areas for at least 4 hours.

Maintenance

  • For best results, schedule your next treatment in 3 to 4 months to maintain the desired effect.

If you have any questions or concerns following your treatment, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 780-222-6657 or email gina@artistryinjections.ca to arrange a follow-up.

PRE-CARE / AFTER-CARE

DERMAL FILLER INJECTIONS

Please arrive to your appointment with a clean face. There is a cleansing station available for your use.

Please arrive for your appointment well-hydrated and having eaten, rather than on an empty stomach.

While dental hygiene is important to your overall health, avoid routine dental procedures for two weeks before and two weeks after your dermal filler treatment to minimize risk of infection.

If you have a history of cold sores please contact us regarding pre-care instructions.

Due to the expected timeline for results, including the possibility of swelling and bruising, this treatment is not recommended within four weeks of any special event. It takes up to 6 weeks for a dermal filler treatment  to look it's best.

Please plan on a recovery period of two weeks. Most of the anticipated swelling and bruising (if it occurs) happens in the 1-3 day period immediately after your injections.

Pre-Care

To minimize potential bruising with facial injections, we recommend the following:

  • Stop over the counter medication and herbal supplements that have an effect on thinning your blood 5-7 days prior to your appointment. This includes:
    • Fish oils
    • Omegas
    • Vitamin E
    • Vitamin A
    • Gingko biloba
    • Garlic
    • Aspirin
    • Ibuprofen (Advil, Aleve, Motrin)
    • Other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) .
  • DO NOT STOP prescribed medications such as warfarin/coumadin or Plavix.
  • Avoid alcohol 72 hours prior to your appointment.
  • Get your exercise in for the day before your appointment.

After-Care

Immediately after your treatment you may notice some redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising at the treated area. This is a normal response to treatment and it will disappear in a few days. If you are having discomfort you may take Tylenol as directed on the bottle.

  • Avoid air travel after treatment for at least 72 hours.
  • Do not touch, rub or manipulate areas of injection, unless instructed by your cosmetic injector.
  • If possible avoid sleeping on the treated area for the first 3-5 nights.
  • Avoid makeup application for 24 hours.
  • Avoid facials and massages that require pressure to be applied to the treated area for 2 weeks.
  • Avoid chemical peels, hydrating facials (BellaMD, Hydrafacial) for 2 weeks.
  • Avoid energy based devices such as lasers, IPL/BBL and/or RF microneedling in the treated area for 4 weeks.

To minimize swelling we recommend the following:

  • Apply an ice pack periodically to the treated area for 20 minutes. Repeat as desired after a 20 minute break.
  • You may want to take an over the counter antihistamine daily for 1-3 days as directed on the packaging. This can also help to reduce swelling. We recommend a non-drowsy daytime formula if working or operating machinery/a vehicle.
  • Avoid warm to hot temperatures such as hot baths, steam, hot tubs, hot yoga, or sun tanning while the area is red and/or swollen. Warm temperatures dilate the the blood vessels rushing more blood, heat, and swelling to the area.

To minimize potential bruising post treatment we recommend the following:

  • Avoid alcohol, ibuprofen and other NSAIDs within 72 hours of your treatment.

General care as follows:

  • Avoid heavy lifting, straining, vigorous exercise for the first 48 hours after treatment.
  • Do not apply make up for the first 24 hours after treatment. If you must, the makeup must be brand new/first use as old makeup harbors bacteria placing you at risk of seeding the bacteria into the dermal filler.
  • Avoid manipulation of the treated area. If there is a visible bump, do not massage. It is normal for dermal fillers to have lumps and bumps in the first two weeks. As they soften and integrate in to your tissues, these lumps will go away. Any lumps or bumps will be assessed at your four week follow up appointment.
  • Change your pillowcase to reduce the risk of bacterial infection at the site of injection.

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are not permanent. They will naturally degrade due to your body's enzymes and be resorbed. Your results are maintained by regular treatments over time. Be sure to book your next appointment as discussed with your injector. Recall appointment times will vary based on area treated and amount of product used.

If you have any concerns following your treatment, please contact us at 780-222-6657 or email gina@artistryinjections.ca to arrange assessment.

PRE-CARE / AFTER-CARE

PRP INJECTIONS

Please arrive to your appointment with a clean face. There is a cleansing station available for your use.

Please arrive for your appointment well-hydrated and having eaten, rather than on an empty stomach.

Due to the expected swelling and bruising this treatment is not recommended within 2 weeks of any special event.

Pre-Care

To support a safe, comfortable experience and achieve the best possible results, please review and follow the guidelines below:

5-7 Days Before Your Appointment

To minimize bruising and reduce the risk of complications, discontinue the following over-the-counter medications and supplements known to thin the blood:

  • Fish oil and omega-3 supplements
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin A
  • Garlic
  • Gingko biloba
  • Aspirin
  • Ibuprofen (e.g., Advil, Motrin, Aleve)
  • Other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)

Important: Do not stop any prescription blood-thinners (e.g., warfarin/Coumadin, clopidogrel/Plavix) unless specifically directed by your physician.

1 Week Before Your Appointment

  • Discontinue topical retinoids and active exfoliants (e.g., AHAs/BHAs) on the treatment area.

3 Days Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid alcohol, smoking, and vaping
  • Avoid sun exposure and heat treatments (e.g., saunas, hot yoga)

Day of Your Appointment

  • Stay well-hydrated. Drink at least 1 litre of water before arriving.
  • Eat beforehand. A light meal will help reduce the risk of dizziness.
  • Do not exercise immediately before or after your appointment.
  • Arrive in good health. Please reschedule if you are experiencing any signs of illness (e.g., cold, fever, cough, flu).
  • Ensure the treatment area is free of active breakouts, including cold sores or herpes lesions, for at least 3 days prior.

After-Care

To support optimal healing and enhance your results following Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment, please follow the aftercare instructions below. These guidelines are designed to minimize discomfort and support your skin's natural regeneration process.

Immediately After Treatment

You may experience some redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the treated area. This is a normal response and typically resolves within a few days. If you are experiencing discomfort, Tylenol (acetaminophen) may be taken as directed. While not routinely recommended, an ice pack may be applied periodically in 20-minute intervals, with 20-minute breaks in between, to help reduce swelling.

General Care

  • Refrain from washing your face or hair for the remainder of the day to allow the PRP serum to absorb fully. You may cleanse your skin the following morning.
  • Do not apply lotions, creams, makeup, or medicated ointments for at least 6 hours. Medicated products may interfere with the effectiveness of growth factors.
  • If your skin feels dry or tight after treatment, apply a gentle moisturizer free of active ingredients.
  • Avoid touching, pressing, or manipulating the treated areas for at least 8 hours.
  • Avoid heavy lifting, straining, or vigorous exercise for the first 48 hours, and no strenuous activity for 3 full days post-treatment.
  • Avoid air travel for at least 72 hours.
  • Maintain a nutrient-rich diet and drink at least 1 litre of water on the day of treatment. Continue hydration for the first week to support recovery.

Skincare and Product Use

  • Resume your skincare routine with gentle application only, starting the day after treatment.
  • Avoid active ingredients, including medicated cleansers, exfoliants, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and retinol/Retin-A for 10 days post-treatment to support platelet activity and maximize growth factor effectiveness.
  • Discontinue use of retinol products for at least 3 days, and ideally for 10 days post-treatment.
  • Avoid facials, facial massage, or pressure to the treated area for 2 weeks.
  • Avoid laser treatments for 1 month and chemical peels for 2 weeks.

Heat and Temperature Exposure

  • Avoid warm to hot environments (e.g., hot baths, steam rooms, hot tubs, saunas, hot yoga, or tanning beds) while the treated area remains red or swollen, and for at least 2 to 3 days post-treatment.
  • Avoid temperatures below -15°C during this same period.

Medication and Supplements

  • Discontinue use of allergy medications (antihistamines) for  5 days post-treatment unless otherwise advised.
  • Avoid the following for at least 3 to 7 days post-treatments
    • Alcohol
    • NSAIDs such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Naproxen
    • Steroidal anti-inflammatories
    • Ginkgo Biloba, garlic, flaxseed oil, cod liver oil
    • Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and other essential fatty acids

These agents can interfere with the natural inflammatory process needed for tissue repair and may increase the risk of bruising.

Smoking and Lifestyle

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and smoking for at least 3 days. Smoking impairs your body’s healing response and may delay visible results.

Expected Side Effects

Mild redness, swelling, bruising, itching, or tenderness is common and usually resolves within 3 to 10 days. Bruising and swelling may last up to 1 week. Temporary uneven skin texture may be noticed for up to 3 days.

PRP takes time to produce results. You should not expect to see hair growth or changes in your facial tissues until after the 3rd treatment. Your results are maintained by one treatment approximately every 6 months. Be sure to book your next appointment as discussed with your injector. Recall appointment times will vary based on area treated.

If you have any concerns following your treatment, please contact us at 780-222-6657 or email gina@artistryinjections.ca to arrange assessment.

  • Ensure the treatment area is free of active breakouts, including cold sores or herpes lesions, for at least 3 days prior.

After-Care

To support optimal results and reduce the risk of complications following your Sculptra Aesthetic treatment, please follow these general post-care guidelines:

1. Massage the Treated Area

  • Gently massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days after your treatment.
  • Use a gentle, unscented moisturizer, serum or oil to aid massage and avoid friction.
  • This helps distribute the product evenly and supports natural collagen stimulation.
  • You may experience mild tenderness during massage.

2. Avoid Excessive Sun or Heat Exposure

  • For at least 24 to 48 hours, avoid hot environments such as saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, or sun tanning.
  • Protect your skin from direct sunlight. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) daily, even if you're indoors or it's cloudy.

3. Avoid Alcohol and Strenuous Exercise

  • Refrain from alcohol and intense physical activity for 24 hours post-treatment to reduce swelling and bruising.

4. Avoid Other Facial Treatments

  • Do not schedule facials, laser treatments, chemical peels, microneedling, or dermal filler injections for at least 2 weeks post-Sculptra unless advised by your provider.

5. Skincare Products

  • You may resume your usual skincare routine the next day, but avoid harsh exfoliants or active ingredients (such as retinol, AHAs/BHAs) for 5 days post-treatment.

6. Bruising or Swelling

  • Mild bruising, swelling, redness, or tenderness at the injection sites is common and typically resolves within a few days. More significant bruising can take up to two weeks to resolve.

7. Results Timeline

  • Sculptra results appear gradually as your body builds collagen. Most patients notice visible improvement within 6 to 12 weeks, with full effects developing over several months.
  • A series of 2-4 treatments is typically recommended for optimal results that can last for up to 2 years.
